Anticipating a Lockout, NFLPA Issues Money-Saving Handbook to Players

For a few years now, a great deal of Americans have been cutting back in order to traverse the dire financial straits we’ve come upon of late. Now, NFL players are preparing to do the same.

In anticipation of a lockout, the NFL Players’ Association has issued a handbook to players in order to brace themselves for the possibility of being effectively jobless for a while. The document runs 64 pages and outlines simple money-saving tips for players, such as running their washers at lower temperatures and eating in rather than going out.

If socializing, do so with a purpose,” the handbook advises, per USA Today. Other tips include, “When going out, remember to ‘leave the club with your wallet and budget intact,’ and “Say ‘no’ or ‘not now’ to money requests from family and friends, and don't "pay friends to perform work that you can easily do."

No word as of yet if the handbook gets into such specifics as “don’t take your teammates out for a $54,000 dinner,” but we’ll get back with you if we hear anything.
