Aikman Lends Cowboys A Ringing Endorsement

Earlier this week, Emmitt Smith expressed to reporters his belief that the Dallas Cowboys had turned a corner in 2009, that the team was "very close" to being serious Super Bowl contenders.

Apparently, Smith isn't the only franchise great impressed by the team's effort this season.

Troy Aikman put a foot on the bandwagon yesterday, agreeing with Smith's sentiments and offered some tacit praise for Tony Romo.

"They very easily could have been that team here this year," Aikman said, per the Dallas Morning News. "No one really wanted to face them in the postseason. Something just didn't work out well for them in Minnesota. But they're a talented group with a great quarterback, and they're well on their way."

"Something" not working out for Dallas in Minnesota may be a severe understatement; it was more like a litany of somethings. But one can't deny that Aikman, who at times seems to go out of his way to come off as objective on Fox, knows well the look of a Super Bowl caliber team.
