NY OPENING: Dominique Ansel Bakery

New York City is on top of their game when it comes to desserts. From the age-old Italian bakeries in the outer boroughs to the trendy cupcake, cakeball, and macaron boutiques that keep popping up, a new spot in town has one legendary restaurant’s pastry chef branching out on his own venture that brings his French flair to after-dinner sweets. Dominique Ansel, longtime pastry chef at Daniel, opened Dominique Ansel Bakery yesterday on Spring Street.

This pastry shop will not only entice you with buttery croissants and creamy eclairs; but as the New York Times reports, Chef Ansel is also introducing the New York crowd to his take on his hometown desserts, including Paris-Brest, "a filled ring of cream puff pastry." This dessert alone is reason enough to check out this new patisserie. This cafe is also not just about sweets, serving up coffee and small savory plates for customers who can look forward to the garden house even in the upcoming winter months.

Tune in to our "unique desserts" episode of 1st Look this Saturday after Saturday Night Live on NBC.
