Steak House Puts Fork in Rumors of Closure

Ruth's Chris celebrates first year in Fort Worth with many more to come

The rumor surfaced about six weeks ago: Ruth's Chris Steak House in the Hilton Hotel in downtown Fort Worth would close less than a year after it opened.

NBCDFW made phone calls and sent emails to restaurant management but no comment came. The sizzling rumor lost fizzle, and the absence of official response seemed to verify that.

But in the last few days, the rumor picked up and NBCDFW once again searched to find the truth. "It's absolutely not true," said Mike Connelly, regional vice president for Ruth's Chris.

"I don't know what's going on in downtown Fort Worth, but we have a long term lease there," Connelly told NBCDFW. "The economy's hit everybody.  We'll probably come off our budget a bit, but we're actually doing very well."  In fact, the restaurant joined Fort Worth, Texas, magazine last weekend in celebrating anniversaries; Ruth's Chris' first, the magazine's 10th.

Ruth's Chris Steak House opened its Fort Worth location on April 14, 2008, bringing steaks seared to 1,800 degrees and topped with butter, just across the street from that other famous beef master - Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House.

In a news release about that grand opening, Ruth's Chris then chairman and chief executive Craig Miller said, "This opening is especially important to me as I spent many years growing up in Fort Worth, and I'm proud to be able to bring our southern hospitality and service to a city that makes an excellent match for Ruth's Chris."

And that match will remain in place. Connelly told NBCDFW Ruth's Chris' lease for 815 Main Street extends at least 20 years.  And, he added, "To see for yourself, call 817-348-0080 for reservations."
