Holiday shoppers looking to the Web to save money should take care to protect themselves from hackers.

Hackers are posting bogus advertisements that link to popular Web sites. When unsuspecting shoppers click on one of the ads, harmful spyware is downloaded onto their computers. The keylogger then records every keystroke.

Hackers are also hiding malicious code links in user comments posted to popular forums.

Experts recommend installing a well-known Internet security package and keeping it updated. Shoppers should also use common sense and only shop at well-known, trusted Web sites, experts say.
