Deals & Discounts: Cheap Golf, Book Fair

In tough economic times, frugal shoppers are looking for deals and smart business owners are giving them.  Here are a few deals we've found for the week of Oct. 19-25.

FRIDAY DEALS

This month and next, Dallas' West End is offering free concerts on Friday nights.  A full schedule is available here.

The Core Golf School at Chase Oaks in Allen is offering golf lessons for half price on Wednesdays as well as the ability to bring a friend along for free through the end of the year. The Arlington Museum of Art is selling 20,000 hard and soft cover books starting at just $.50 each as part of the American Association of University Women Book Fair.  The fair starts at 4 p.m. and continues through the weekend.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month you can indulge in food, wine, fine art and music Friday and Saturday in Sundance Square.  Admission to Musicarte de Fort Worth is free.

WEEKEND DEALS

The Fort Worth Alliance Air Show is Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The Blue Angels and Golden Knights will be there. Admission is free but it does cost $20 to park.

Don't miss the free Fall in Love with Reading Festival for children ages 4 to 11 at TCU's indoor football practice facility.  Children will receive free books, free eye exams and much more beginning at 9 a.m.

Take the family out to Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas on Saturday for a free diabetes awareness event held between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Families can enjoy fitness activities, get nutritional information and take part in a walk/run.

Kincaid's Hamburgers, which won NBCDFW's Golden Local last April, is rolling back prices to the 1960s on Saturday -- offering a half-pound burger, chips and soft drink for only $2.  Read more here on NBCDFW.com.

On Sunday, bring your little ghosts and goblins to a concert at the Denton Civic Center. The Denton Community Band will perform at 3 p.m. and the audience is encouraged to come in costume.

Every Saturday has something different and interesting at the Uptown Village at Cedar Hill.  Jazz, movies and car shows will feature attractions on different Saturdays in September. A schedule is available here.

Saturdays and Sundays at 11:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., The Legends of Texas Gunfight Shows take place at Stockyards Station in Fort Worth. The shows are free and attendees can learn about about the history of this part of North Texas between 1835 and the early 1900s.

MONDAY DEALS

Duncan Donuts is offering a medium coffee for only $.25 every Monday through the NFL season.  The offer is good at most participating DFW locations from open to noon. Additionally, customers can redeem their Cowboys game ticket stubs at any Dunkin’ Donuts location to receive a free medium hot coffee on weekdays after every home game.

Like a good steak? The Ranch Steakhouse in Cedar Hill is offering a buy one entree get one free on Monday evenings. A reservation is required by 6 p.m.

Eating in Glen Rose?  Stop by Three Rivers Fine Dining where one kids can eat free.  For every adult entree purchased, one child can select an entree (less than $12) off of the menu.

Posadas is offering a free nacho bar Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The nacho bar includes beans, meat, queso, lettuce, tomato, salsa and one sopapillia.

TUESDAY DEALS

On Tuesdays, shoppers older than 55 will be given 15 percent off their purchase at all Metroplex Catherine's Plus clothing stores.

WEDNESDAY DEALS

The Tarrant County Tax Collector is holding a large furniture and accessories auction at the Education Center Building at 401 8th Street.  The auction begins at 10 a.m.  Read more here on NBCDFW.com.

Free nachos!  Diners who go to Kenny's Burger Joint in Frisco can get a free order of  nachos just by knowing the secret password -- which is: "I love Kenny's."  The offer expires Oct. 31.

THURSDAY DEALS

Billy Bobs Texas offers free line dance lessons every Thursday at 7 p.m. Admission on Thursday is reduced until 8 p.m.

OTHER DEALS

The Theatre Communications Group is offering Free Nights of Theater. The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs announced the Free Night of Theater will be held from Thursday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 8. featuring more than 2,000 free tickets to more than 25 Dallas-area theaters. Tickets will be released in a staggered format with each weekend's ticket allotment being released on the Monday prior to the performance. Theatergoers can reserve tickets through the Free Night of Theater Web site here beginning at noon on Monday, Oct. 5.
