Homeowners in a North Texas town are questioning why their homeowner association dues are going up while service is down.

Families in the community of Cross Oaks Ranch in Cross Roads, just north of Little Elm, said repairs haven't been made.

"There's an awning that's been down for more than a month now, and they've been notified about that," resident Earl Sanders said. "The fountains as you drive up front are spitting mud."

One of the pools was locked and labeled off-limits Friday, and the community gym was earlier closed because of break-ins and vandalism.

Robert Hantson, another homeowner, said the community does not have pool or social communities, nor a crime watch.

Residents said they asked the HOA why the issues haven't been resolved.

"As a resident I want more than the grass cut," Sanders said. "You know, our dues go to pay for these pools we have here."

The HOA told residents dues went up because more than 400 homeowners weren't paying their dues, Hantson said.

"They're just basically collectively punishing those who are paying their dues out here for the actions of a few that aren't," he said.

Attempts to reach the developer, Marlin Atlantis, for comment Saturday were not successful.
