NOW OPEN:

Samar by Stephan Pyles

2100 Ross Avenue, Dallas

214-922-9922

The wait is over – Samar by Stephan Pyles finally opened last night.  Perhaps the most anticipated new restaurant of the year, Samar features a menu of international small plates showcasing the flavors of India, Spain and the Eastern Mediterranean.  Executive Chef Vijay Sadhu heads up the restaurant’s open kitchen, but you’ll probably want to explore the tented outdoor terrace before you eat.  Where else in town can you kick back with a hookah while gazing at a beautiful view of the Arts District?

Open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday, Samar will begin serving lunch in the near future.  Also keep in mind that this new hotspot does not accept reservations.  For more details on Samar, check out our reports from Ellen Goldberg and Annie Potasznik.

Samar by Stephan Pyles is gonna be hot

Cowboy Chow is now open in Roanoke

----

Cowboy Chow

101 S. Oak Street, Roanoke

817-491-4442

A new outpost of Deep Ellum fave Cowboy Chow is now open in historic downtown Roanoke.  Right next door to the second location of Jason Boso’s other crowd-pleaser, Twisted Root Burger Co., the 4,000 square foot restaurant boasts rustic touches like solid wood tables and booths and hand-made rocking chairs.  All the better to compliment its down-home menu, filled with rib-stickers like slow-braised meats and Fried Green Tomato Lollipops.

Cowboy Chow serves lunch Monday through Saturday and brunch on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Dinner is available every night of the week and we hear there’s even live music on the weekend.

COMING SOON:

WoodFire Kirby’s

3525 Greenville Avenue, Dallas

214-821-2122

Kirby’s Prime Steakhouse closed last week and will reopen this coming Monday, October 12th.  …But call it WoodFire Kirby’s from now on, okay?  “We have completely redesigned the restaurant,” explains Director of Operations Joe Cleveland.  That means a whole new décor for the meaty mainstay, thanks to designer Rex Kirby (no relation), as well as a fresh menu from Chef Daniel Nemec.  New items include Hawaiian Spearfish, Kobe Fois Gras Burgers and Neapolitan Flat Crust Pizzas.  Bring on the fire!

GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN:

Finally, DiTerra’s Urban Italian at 1928 Greenville Avenue has closed.  The young restaurant received favorable reviews and was often cited as a positive step towards revitalizing the Lower Greenville entertainment district.  DiTerra’s was even reported to be a favorite among staff members of other bars and restaurants in the area.  This neighborhood spot will be missed.
