Perfect Pies From Fort Worth Guys

Mellow Mushroom's local flavors are a favorite among Fort Worth folks

It's hard not to smile when you walk into Mellow Mushroom.

The brainchild of three hippies who opened their first pizzeria in 1974; the Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakery is a favorite among Texas Christian University students, locals and anyone who appreciates locally sourced, organic ingredients. It offers an eclectic assortment of pies with names like 'Magical Mystery Tour,' 'Mighty Meaty' and 'Kosmic Karma'.

"The organic ingredients I really like. It's the most the most diet savvy pizza probably that you can eat in town… this coupled with the atmosphere makes it really fun," customer Rudy Klancnik said.

The first location to open in North Texas, Mellow Mushroom in Fort Worth isn't just about tasty pizza. Customers are encouraged to participate in the pizza making process.

"Back there on that pizza line, it's a show," says owner Kim Slawsan. "We have dough tossing contests all the time. They're behind there jamming out to Michael Jackson, singing along. They find very creative ways to be able to make it fun and interesting."

"I come here because just the genuine people here and the pizza is really good, they cook on a stone based oven and so it's different from all the other pizza places," local Kailyn Choate told us.

Mellow Mushroom regulars say one of their favorite pies is the classic "House Special," topped with pepperoni, ham, bacon, ground beef, sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, black olives, and tomatoes.
