Food is supposed to be the star of the Taste of Dallas, but it’s the heat that is taking center stage. “We are melting,” Dallas mother Susan Hibdon said, as she sampled a red velvet cupcake at the weekend long food festival.
Vendors are trying to beat the heat with spray bottles, fans, and misting machines. Temperatures did soar past the century mark Friday afternoon, topping out at 102. And, its forecast to be even warmer on Saturday and Sunday. ”That's why we have the number of officers here that we do,” Dallas Police Lt. Craig Miller said. “In the event there is a problem, we can call for medical attention.”
So far, Dallas Police say there haven't been any heat related emergencies and they're hopeful the triple digit temperatures won't scare the weekend crowds away. “We are staying the course,” Lt. Miller said. “And we hope people come out and enjoy it.”
The festival in Dallas’ West End continues Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free
