Fried Frito Pie Wins Big Tex Choice Award

It's Labor Day and the State Fair of Texas starts in less than three weeks, that means it's time to name the winners of the Big Tex Choice Awards.

There were eight finalists for the State Fair food awards, check out our write up on Deep Fried S'mores PopTart, Fried Chocolate, Deep Fried Frozen Margarita, Fried Lemonade, Fernie's Fried Club Salad, Texas Fried Caviar, Fried Beer, and Texas Fried Frito Pie.

A panel of three judges picked the winners, and the awards went to... (drum roll please).

Best Taste went to the Texas Fried Frito Pie from concessionaire Nick Bert of Bert's Burgers & Fries. Here's the description:

A generous portion of savory Texas chili + a hint of sharp cheddar are encased in everybody's favorite corn chip. Lightly battered and fried to a golden brown perfection. Its smooth medley of hot, meaty, crunchy, salty, cheesy, oozes goodness; "Texas Fried Frito Pie" transports you back to the golden age of Fair Food.

And the award for Most Creative went to Fried Beer from concessionaire Mark Zable of the Belgian Waffle Stand. Here's the description:

Beer-filled pretzel pocket is deep-fried to a golden brown. One bite and the escaping beer serves as a dipping sauce. 21 and over, ID required
