SUPER NEW:
Farnatchi Gourmet Oven
3001 Knox Street, Suite 108, Dallas

214-219-7200

Talk about a sly fox.  Joe Khalaf’s Farnatchi Gourmet Oven opened quietly this week in one of the busiest shopping and dining districts in town.  Counting Pei Wei, Fadi’s, and Marble Slab among its neighbors at Knox and 75, this new Mediterranean-themed eatery nearly slipped in under the radar…but we’ve got eyes and ears everywhere!

Khalaf, co-owner of Medina and owner of the popular LA Gourmet Pizza chain, grew up in the Mediterranean, and based this new concept on the tradition of neighborhood bakeries he enjoyed throughout his childhood.  Italian, with an exotic twist, you’ll find ingredients like preserved lemon and feta cheese commingling with the familiar flavors of mozzarella, tomatoes and olives on Farnatchi’s menu.

Serving up fresh-baked pizzas ($6-14), salads and entrees like Chicken Scaloppine ($9) and Spaghetti Pomodoro ($6), the restaurant also offers homemade tiramisu ($5) for dessert.  Farnatchi is now open for dinner and will be serving lunch as of this coming Monday.  Oh, and don’t forget to BYOB.

RE-NEWED:
WineTastic
4140 Lemmon Avenue, Suite 130, Dallas
214-559-8910

After presumably pouring its last sip earlier this year, WineTastic has re-opened under new management.  Conveniently located in the Oak Lawn area next to Gloria’s restaurant, you can now stop into the shop for beer and wine Tuesday – Saturday and Mondays by appointment.

REDUCED:
Perennial family fave Luby’s is downsizing in North Texas to the tune of eight cafeterias.  Never fear, however, as 13 Metroplex locations will still be serving up the classic comfort food we’ve come to know and love.  Click here to read more about it.

EAT-AND-GREET:
Solve the age-old Saturday question of “Where are we going to eat?” with a resounding “Everywhere!” tomorrow from 11 - 5 at the Granada Theater in Dallas.  Benefitting the Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson Elementary School PTA’s, Taste of Greenville Avenue 2009 will feature continuous live music and $2 and up samples from Blue Fish, Ozona, Terilli’s and lots of other tasty Greenville spots.  Admission is free; for more information, click here to see Kristi Nelson’s report.

And p.s. – here’s hoping for a SO DFW pic of Mayor Tom Leppert, who we hear will be attending the event!
