Dallas champagne bar Brut closed its doors for good on New Year's Eve.

The business across from Mockingbird Station opened in July 2007.

Owner Ildefonso Jimenez placed blame for the closing on the economy.

"It's very, very sad," he said. "People are being very concientious on the prices and not buying the high-end champagne like they were last year."

Nationwide, champagne sales have fallen flat. Many consumers are opting instead for more budget-friendly sparkling wines.

On his last day in business, Jimenez sold all of his champagne at cost, much to the delight of New Years revelers.

"We are toasting hopefully to a better 2009," customer Kimmy Wright said.

Jimenez said that while the champagne concept fizzled he plans to reinvent the space in the new year as a beer bar with prices easier for his customers to swallow.
