Bottoms Down in Dallas

No-pants prank to take over DART rail

Commentary
by Bruce Felps

Lose the trousers and join the party Sunday afternoon.

Sounds like it could be a pretty wild time, eh? Well, yes, probably but not for any prurient reasons, necessarily. Maybe later.

For the second year, Dallas joins in the No-Pants Subway Ride. The ride started 10 years ago in New York City by a group called Improv Everywhere, in which participants drop the jeans and ride to Union Station. It’s all done in the name of good clean prankster fun for pants-less people out on a lark.

Personally, I am thankful for a layer of denim between me and a DART seat. You don't know where those things have been or what's been on them.

According to the signup on the Dallas group’s Facebook page, more than 300 people plan to bare their briefs and boxers out in public. Some, no doubt, you wouldn’t mind at all seeing in their underwear. Others, well …

Organizers put together a map showing meet-up points and destinations because how embarrassing would it be to show up at the train platform and be the only one in your underwear? Then again, most of these guys probably wouldn’t care.

Given the forecast temperatures Sunday, I wonder if thermal long underwear counts.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He will keep his jeans on Sunday, thank you very much.
