Choice Adds To Rangers' Top Prospects

Every year, MLBpipeline.com releases the top 100 prospects in Major League Baseball, and every year Jonathan Mayo and Jim Callis compile the list with at least a few prospects in the Texas Rangers organization.

The top prospect for the Rangers, of course, is catcher Jorge Alfaro, who checked in at No. 39, and he was followed by middle infielder Rougned Odor (No. 59), middle infielder Luis Sardinas (No. 76) and first baseman/slugger Joey Gallo (No. 92).

One more prospect was on the list, but it's not the conventional one that will most likely not see the major leagues this year, as Michael Choice was ranked No. 72 on the list coming off a great year in Oakland's minor-league system. Choice is expected to compete for a spot on the Rangers' big-league roster this year and will almost definitely find the field at some point, if it's not at the beginning of the season.

Choice, a UT-Arlington-ex, played in 132 games at Triple-A Sacramento and hit .302 with a .390 on-base percentage and a .445 slugging percentage. He scored 90 runs in 132 games, while belting 14 home runs and driving 89 runs. He went 5-for-18 in a September callup for the A's before being traded to the Rangers in December for Craig Gentry and Josh Lindblom.

The thought is that Choice could have 25-home run power and the ability to equal that number in stolen bases as an athletic outfielder who could easily see time in a platoon in left field for the Rangers this year.
