The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts has released more specific information on the week’s worth of events that will be opening their 2009-2010 season.

The DCPA will start off the season on October 12 with a series of outdoor performances in Sammons Park. The Earth Harp, known as the “worlds largest harp”, will be stretched from the top of Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet High School to the ground and played by the group Mass Ensemble. The public will be permitted to play the harp as well. There will also be a one-of-a-kind light show by Luma and amazingly creative acrobatic performances by Anti Gravity.

Jazz saxophonist David Sanborn will play on Oct. 16, followed by a free concert by the Dallas Symphony featuring Beethoven’s Ninth, led by Jaap van Zweden.

The rest of the season will include such Broadway shows as Spring Awakening and Avenue Q, plus forums with speakers such as Condoleeza Rice and Hillary Swank. The 2009-2010 season will also feature a host of other shows by the Dallas Theater Center, The Dallas Opera, TITAS, and the Texas Ballet Theater.
