You may find there is no such thing as a free lunch, but now you can get a free ride to restaurants and other downtown Fort Worth hotspots.

The new "Molly the Trolleys" will roll along a route that will link the north and south ends of downtown.

The trolley service will start running in a summer trial that begins next Wednesday.

"We want to have a convenient way for people to move back and forth among the attractions, our shops and our restaurants," Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief said. "And it's not just reserved for tourists and conventioneers, this is for everyone."

Moncrief said he encourages everyone to take a ride so the city can keep the service going.

"Ridership is going to be the key to Molly's success," he said. "If no one rides, we're not going to keep it around."

Moncrief said the shuttle represents a small step in the city's vision for better downtown mobility, and reduced traffic congestion and improved air quality.

"Molly the Trolley is definitely a look into the future," he said. "One day we hope to have a comprehensive modern-day streetcar system here in Fort Worth."

The free trolley service will run on the "Downtown Get Around" route every day from May 27 through August 22 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

The funding comes from downtown hotels, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and Downtown Fort Worth Inc, the Star-Telegram reported.
