After 46 years in Fort Worth, the Miss Texas and Miss Teen Texas pageants are moving to Arlington.

The Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau spent $10,000 to secure the 5-year contract.

They say it will mean $1.3 million annually in economic impact thanks in part to the 1,200 hotel rooms the crew, contestants and their families will occupy.

The preliminary competition began on Monday. A new Miss Texas will be named Friday night in the final competition which starts at 8 p.m.
